Newly constructed single family dwelling in New Orleans
The client for this project is a local contractor that wanted to showcase his home as a model of his work for clients, friends and family. The young couple developed their vision for this transitional home as a place they would entertain guests for years to come.
As a mecca for entertaining, it was crucial to incorporate open floorpans between living, kitchen and dining areas as well as seamless indoor-outdoor spaces. The clients love hosting year-round for sporting events, so another key focus was to have optimal views of the TV’s in the entertaining spaces. Even the pool was designed with bench seats along the edges, to catch a glimpse of the outdoor TV’s during the hot summer months.
Secluded from the main entertaining areas, is the master suite. Located at the rear of the first floor, the suite overlooks the pool on one side and the levee on the other.
The majority of this transitional home follows a reoccurring design theme of soft whites and grey with rich wood elements. The front office and “pool house” follow a contrasting darker palette, to break away from the flow and set different moods for late nights of work or play.
Front Facade
The heavily tree-lined, Country Club Drive leads straight to the single family home. As the first house you see when approaching the street, it was important to the client that the exterior was symmetrical, warm and inviting.
The transitional home has a light grey surface with contrasting dark windows and rich natural wooden elements.
The symmetrical, oversized welcoming entryway has a glass door with sidelights with direct sight-lines through the home to the pool. Inviting guests to the entertainment mecca.
Kitchen, Dining + Living
Neutral, open kitchen and dining area for entertaining offer views of the pool and are flooded with natural light from large windows and glass door openings.
With entertaining as the main goal in the home, the kitchen and dining room flow seamlessly with the double height living room. Even the second floor has a glimpse of the entertaining space from an overlooking balcony.
Pool house + wet bar
In contrast to the majority of the home, a speak-easy styled pool house + bar is another place for guests entertaining. The room is built for late nights and stiff cocktails.
Master Bedroom
Tucked away from the entertaining spaces, the master suite offers views of the pool and levee system behind the home.
Master bathroom
Large, transitional bathroom with wet room.
Front Bedroom / Office
Similar to the pool house, the front office was themed after the show Mad Men. The client wanted his office to reflect a place where late nights of were rewarded with a cocktail.
Second Floor
The second floor of the home has additional bedrooms for a growing family or for entertaining out of town guests.
In addition to the bedrooms, the client also requested a large storage area that they could potentially turn into a home gym facility.
outdoor entertaining
Similar to the front exterior, the back of the home focuses on symmetry and room for entertaining. The large glass doorways and windows provide for seamless interaction between indoor and outdoor entertaining space.
Every angle of the backyard entertaining space has views of at least one of the TV’s, for sporting events. Even the pool has bench seating along its edge for optimal viewing.
